Description Job Summary:

The Welder will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. You will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. Your job is important as it provides the foundation for strong infrastructure.

A welder must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
  • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
  • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
  • Willingness and ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must have a LA City Welders License
  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Excellent understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
  • Basic ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
  • Fundamental understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Proficient in English.
Education and Experience:
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship OR successful completion of an in-company, three-year training program required.
  • Current welding certifications (Recently expired certifications may be acceptable contingent upon the ability to successfully requalify prior to employment.)
  • An LA City card is a must for this position.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for extended hours.
  • Comfortable with working on elevated surfaces.
  • Resilient to working in adverse climatic conditions.
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Must be able to see details at close range.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
