Qualifications and Standards
?Minimum Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering desired.
Minimum 5 years of construction experience as an Estimator or equivalent preferred.
Knowledge of principles, methods, and standards of the designated trade's area.
Experience in the use and methods of tools and equipment commonly employed with the trade.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support and comply with company Health, Safety, and Environmental Program, Drug/Alcohol Free Workplace, and Harassment Free Work Environment Program.
Understand and enforce safe work practices and personal protective equipment required for employees.
Set yourself as an example for workplace safety.
Ensure that all accidents and incidents are reported to Safety Manager and Division Manager, regardless of how minor, as soon as possible and assist in investigation.
Recognize, identify, and price safety requirements for jobs bid, and involve Safety Manager when appropriate.
?Systems and Software - Proficiency in the following:
Other Software - Microsoft Office, Viewpoint, Build2Win, Sharefile, Adobe, and other software as needed.
Must have a thorough understanding of the scope, plans, and specifications of the job.
Ability to identify appropriate subcontractors and vendors that will be required for the project being bid.
Understanding of the scope of work required for each subcontractor/vendor trade.
Prepare and transmit RFQ's to subcontractor and vendors in a timely fashion and with the proper information so that a complete bid will be received.
Conduct site visit with sufficient time prior to bid date to allow time for RFI's. Determine at a minimum ingress and egress routes, existing site conditions, confirm geotechnical reports, dewatering requirements. Also determine underground and overhead obstructions to work.
Prepare a complete and thorough take-off of work required. Take-off must be comprehensive and reproducible.
Ability to apply labor and equipment and crew production rates for each activity of work being self-performed by company.
Ability to accurately complete estimates in a minimum amount of time.
Ability to manage multiple estimates at the same time.
Must being willing to work extended hours when required by bid schedule.
Responsible for preparing a profitable estimate.
?Bid Package Submittal
Prepare and submit a bid package with a professional appearance that reflects orgainization's desire to excel on the project for the customer.
Proposal package requires above average skills in technical writing that will protect orgainization and reflect our professionalism.
Proposal shall have a thorough description of the scope of work including terms, exclusions, clarifications, and assumptions.
Conduct negotiations with customer that will inspire trust and confidence.
Respond promptly and effectively to customer requests.
Follow-up with customer until outcome of bid is determined.
?Project Award and Set Up
Ability to identify, negotiate, and obtain potential savings from subcontractors and vendors and avoid “bid shopping” at the same time.
Project set up package includes all necessary information for the project management team to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project. This includes but is not limited to pre-bid correspondence and unusual or specific contract terms that affect the project, final bid drawings, highlighting unusual conditions or activities, organization of Job Set Up reports in estimating software, and organization of subcontractor and vendor quotes.
Conducts “In-House” preconstruction meetings with project team promptly after award. Provide set up packages for all participa
