Description Compensation

The starting wage for this role will be between $75,000 and $100,000 per year (based on hourly wage and overtime) to commensurate with experience. Our lodging allowance is $700 per work week and will be paid according to policy guidelines.

Responsibilities

Perform Crane Operation and assist with general repair and or construction of railroad bridges throughout the United States and Canada. This position requires 100% travel throughout the United States.   • Complete daily DOT logs, crane inspection, truck inspection and required weekly reports.
  • Read and understand crane operator manual for safe crane operation.
  • Read load charts and operate within the capacity of the charts.
  • Must be able to use proper rigging and hand signals when making a lift, do not exceed weight limits as posted on load charts.
  • Perform and document daily, weekly, and monthly crane inspections.
  • Operate rail gear properly.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on crane, truck and hyrails as required.
  • Keep truck organized and the interior and exterior clean.
  • Must be qualified in Level II track Worker Safety.
  • Must be able to communicate with boom truck trainer, Foreman, and Manager Fleet.
  • Assist in general labor duties, including removing steel rivets, tighten structural steel bolts, remove existing structural steel, hang scaffolding, paint steel, assist in replacement of bridge timbers, ascend and descend slopes with rough terrain, drive spikes and drift pins with maul, dig using hand shovel, drill holes in existing or new timber and work at heights.
  • Operate a jack hammer, rock drill, pneumatic chipper and other power tools to assist in the repair of concrete structures.
  • Operate ½" drill and generator, impact wrench, pneumatic tools, hydraulic tools, magnetic drill, torch and chain saw.
Education and/or Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with heavy physical labor
  • Exposure to heights.
  • Experience in operating hydraulic cranes
  • Ability to read and interpret load charts.
  • NCCCO Certification preferred
  • Heavy equipment operation including excavator, skid steer, forklift, and grapple truck preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Regulations
  • Possess a valid Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with air brakes
  • Must pass company knowledge test, road test, and have favorable driving record in order to qualify for Company Operator's Permit
Other Requirements
  • Knowledge in different types of bridge construction, the structural significance of their components and methods of repair is preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete gas mask, lead exposure, respirator usage and Fall Protection training programs.
  • Must be able to travel 80% of the time.
Physical Demands
  • This position involves heavy physical work with lifting up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to visually focus on items at close, mid, and far range, while identifying color and depth are required.
Work Environment
  • This position is performed 100% outdoors with exposure to weather conditions and drastically changing temperatures.
  • Exposure to loud noises on construction sites while equipment is running and mechanical parts are moving.
  • Employees may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and need to take care while working near electrical sources
