Position Summary:
This position will be responsible for maintenance/construction activities around high voltage (up to 345 kV) substations and transmission lines. This will require an extensive amount of travel throughout the US. This person must have a “safety first” attitude with an understanding of doing the job right the first time.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to professionally interact with customers and coworkers on a daily basis
- Ability to perform maintenance/construction on electrical collection systems including underground cable faults, pad-mount transformers (including fuses, bushings, and terminations), switchgears, T-Bodies, Splices and Wind turbine wiring up to 34.5 kV, substation riser termination, IR Scan, Test HV, MV and LV Cable, transformer oil sampling,
- May Lead, train and instruct 3-5 crew members in safe work practices for the assigned tasks.
- Attend safety meetings and complete safety paperwork on a daily basis
- Demonstrate safety as a top priority
- Substation switching and LOTO (“Lock out tag out”)
- Writing Switching orders and LOTO plans
- Provide well thought-out project planning (financial and scheduling)
- Complete an inventory of material on a daily/weekly basis
- Troubleshoot and/or test electrical components and systems
- Service underground collection systems, substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems
- Replace worn or malfunctioning components

Education and Work Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience working in the electrical industry, specifically for preventative maintenance
- Valid Driver’s License, CDL Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to the Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles
- Knowledge and full immersion in the Wanzek safety and quality requirements for each required task
- Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation.
- Ability to read, interpret and understand basic drawings and schematics
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions with precise execution
- Experience using basic power tools
- Ability to effectively lead a team and/or subcontractors in execution of all requirements
- Ability to independently perform VLF and megger testing, infrared scanning, fault locating, bushing exchanges and battery replacements
- Ability to create concise reports related to testing that the individual or their team has performed
- Ability to demonstrate basic industrial safety practices / protocols including LOTO
- Ability to implement LOTO and switching plans
- Ability to provide well though-out project planning
- Ability to interact well with clients effectively
- Communicates effectively with others
- Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
- Comfort working remotely as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction
- Able/willing to travel 100% of the time.
- Able/willing to be on call and respond to emergency call outs.
