Full and part-time positions available with flexible schedules offered Monday - Friday between 7:00am and 5:30pm. Seasonal employment typically runs from March through October. Overtime opportunities are available for weekends, holidays, and city events.

SUMMARY

Under immediate supervision, to perform semi-skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and related service activities in the Parks Division.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None.

Leads exercise technical and functional supervision of lower-level laborers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Mows, waters, and maintains lawns and other landscapes.
  • Pruning, weeding, spraying, tree planting, or removal of trees.
  • Operates simple hand and power tools; operates simple equipment in moving materials.
  • Assists with minor construction projects which may include work in painting, concrete, carpentry and fence repair.
  • Assists with minor repairs to sprinkling system.
  • Performs other service maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Cleaning of public restrooms, park pavilions, park properties, and emptying of trash cans.
  • Leads supervise seasonal staff and perform as part of a crew.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of employment.

SEASONAL PARKS WORKER

Experience: No experience required.

SEASONAL PARKS LEAD

Experience: Six months experience in performing basic maintenance or related duties.

Certifications/Licenses:
  • Valid Utah Driver's License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
  • Methods, techniques, and tools used in the construction and maintenance of parks, landscaped areas, and related facilities.
  • Basic park maintenance and general construction tools and equipment.
  • Safe driving principles and practices.
Skill with:
  • Operating a variety of mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Performing heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in all types of weather.
  • Operating a motor vehicle safely.
  • Learning City policies, procedures and codes related to parks maintenance.
Ability to:
  • Perform park maintenance, landscaping, reconstruction, and repair work.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
