Examples of Duties

Under the guidance of an Electrician II, performs electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Installs, tests, and replaces components of electrical circuitry and internal power distribution systems including conduit, wiring, connections, receptacles, breakers, panels, and switches.
  • Assists in the testing, repair, and replacement of electrical generators, transformers, and uninterrupted power systems.
  • Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrically operated equipment and appliances including heating, air conditioning, pumping, and solid state control systems.
  • Assists in the installation, testing, and repair of door bells, buzzers, fire alarm and security systems, thermostats, lighting fixtures, and communications systems.
  • Uses tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Reads blueprints, plans, and schematic drawings.
  • Follows safety procedures and electrical codes.
Examples of Other Duties
  • May drive an automobile or light truck to transport workers, tools, or materials between job sites.
  • May lead or instruct lesser skilled workers.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Two years' experience in electrical installation, maintenance, or repair.

Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Licenses and Certificates
Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license at the time of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Conditions of Employment

Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.

Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be requires to work overtime with little or no advance notice. Employees in this classification may be subject to standby duty for after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of tools and equipment. Some duties require exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as high voltage electricity and adverse weather. Some duties may require travel between work sites.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
