Description

General Description: TheFarm Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating tractors, tractor implements, and other farm machinery relating to crop production. This position will involve working with SAFB staff, volunteers, interns, and visitors.

Essential Functions:
  • Operate tractors, tractor implements, farm vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Maintain irrigation schedule for all farms based on acceptable watering practices and restrictions.
  • Maintain Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program for all farms.
  • Responsible for any tillage, cultivation, fertilizer application, planting, irrigation, mechanical harvest, mowing, post-harvest handling and cover cropping initiatives.
  • Maintain records of all fertilizer, pest or weed control applications.
  • Works with landscape team to maintain landscape, gardens, and farms.
  • Conducts routine maintenance of all farm equipment.
  • Maintains records of all farm equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with the training of Farm staff and interns on using farm equipment.
  • Maintains all MSDS sheets for chemicals and pesticides used.
  • Assists with volunteer events.
  • Maintain inventory of all farm equipment and updates quarterly.
  • Responsible for securing all areas and the security of farm vehicles and equipment.
  • Participate in trainings, workshops, and staff meetings.
  • Maintains required licenses to operate machinery and a valid driver's license.
  • Always acts as ambassador of the San Antonio Food Bank when conducting business with donors, partner agencies, volunteers, staff, visitors, and donation recipients.
  • Accepts additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience operating and maintaining farm equipment and implements.
  • 5+ years' experience towing and hauling using large trailers.
  • 5+ years' experience training and supervising staff.
  • This position requires weekend work.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers, and agency personnel.
  • Attention to details, possessing good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to represent the Food Bank in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Possession of a current Texas driver's license and a clean driving record; Class A license preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Work Environment

This job is performed in an indoor office environment and occasionally may require attendance at outdoor events. You may be required to drive to different locations with varying conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
