Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
 
Certified Welding Inspector ensures that the work produced by welders meets specifications for quality and safety. Performs tests on welds to determine whether weld joints can handle stress and ensures that welds are safe for public use. 
You will be working out of our Salt Lake City, UT office.  Travel will be required.
  
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Codes, standards, and specifications: Interpretation of the intent and ensuring the requirements of codes, standards and specifications are met.
  • Welding procedures: Ensuring that a procedure is available, has been approved and is being employed in production.
  • Witnessing of welder and procedure approval tests: Witnessing the preparation of test plates and destructive tests and verifying compliance with appropriate standards and specifications.
  • Welder approvals: Verifying that adequate and valid welder approvals are available and that only approved welders are used in production.
  • Parent material: Verifying parent material against documentation and markings.
  • Welding consumable’s identity: Verification of correctness of welding consumables (electrodes, filler wires, consumable inserts, gases, fluxes etc.)
  • In-process welding inspection and surveillance: Surveillance during welding to verify compliance with specified procedures including any pre-weld, dimensional, preheat, interpass temperature control and post heat requirements.
  • Inspection and Test Plans: Assistance and agreement with the preparation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s)
  • Non-destructive Test reports (NDT): Using NDT methods such as liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography, or ultrasonic inspection as applicable in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Evaluation of and preparation of inspection reports for the employer or the client.
  • Maintenance of records of inspections carried out
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
 
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a welder. Ability to identify new processes and procedures for continual improvement Associate’s degree in welding technology or related equivalent experience have inspection experience and knowledge; ability to read and interpret technical drawings Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification ACCP Level 2Always prepared to learn and listen Never approve the start of welding until the welding procedure has been approved. Always ensure the welding is being carried out within the limits of the approved procedure

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Working conditions are normal for a welding environment where exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp cutting tools, dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
