The Role:The Industrial Maintenance Electrician provides journey-level electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in Water and Wastewater treatment plants.
Salary and Hiring Bonus:
  • This position is FLSA Non-exempt.
  • This position is a Grade 318 with an hourly salary between $30.3404 - $45.5106.
In addition to a generous salary, this position offers a $2,000* Hiring Bonus!

*Hiring Bonus to be paid as follows: $1,000 after 30 days of employment, and $1,000 after 6 months of employment. You must be an active employee at the time the hiring bonus is scheduled to be paid to receive the bonus. Current regular status City of Glendale employees are not eligible for hiring bonuses.

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:
Regular status position's offer:

  • The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays.
  • Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours per year), and increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years, and to 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.
  • Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours per year).
Retirement:This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).

Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.29%.

Essential Functions

  1. Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems and equipment, both medium and low voltage systems primarily in industrial environments (i.e., transformers, motors, electrical distribution systems, MCC's, transformers, panels and control systems that include instrumentation and associated control devices of all types) used in 24-hour operations.
  2. Maintains and repairs electrical equipment.
  3. Performs repairs, maintenance, and installation on medium voltage (up to 15kV) motors, variable frequency drives, transformers, switch gear, and related control equipment.
  4. Documents information on preventive maintenance file on electrical equipment and machinery and monitors a preventive maintenance program.
  5. Draws and alters circuits on a one line diagram for controls.
  6. Designs functional electric circuitry for electrical systems and controls.
  7. Operates aerial equipment, personnel lifts, and pneumatic equipment in the installation and repair of electrical equipment.
  8. Provides on-the-job training for junior or subordinate crew members in skills of the electrical trade, occupational safety, and requirements of specific job tasks.
  9. Acts as a "standby" electrician for responding to emergency calls after normal working hours.
  10. Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  11. Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
  12. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized four-year electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent training program and two years of experience as a skilled electrician working on medium Voltage equipment.

Knowledge of:
Electrical construction and maintenance, including installation of all sizes of electrical conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment.
Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions, including proper PPE selection
Electrical safety work practices and procedures when working with medium-voltage equipment to 15kV.National Electric Code and relevant City codes.
Requirements of NFPA 70E

Skill in:
The care and use of tools and equipment necessary to perform various electrical repair and installation tasks.
Locating and correcting defects in electrical systems and equipment.
The operation of boom trucks, aerial lifts, and pneumatic equipment.

Ability to:
Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids
Estimate labor or material costs/amounts from blueprints or work plans.
Exercise critical thinking and action within the scope of specific assignments.
Troubleshoot electrical defects to determine root cause and appropriate corrective action
Perform written reports on equipment condition assessment and associated tasks.
Produce equipment performance evaluations.
Identify and correct inefficient and/or inadequate preventive maintenance processes and work orders and recommend improvements.
Organize work to pursue common and mission critical objectives.
Produce written, oral, and visual work products in the English language with clearly-organized thoughts sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
Work cooperatively with superiors, subordinates, engineers, consultants, contractors, other City departments, outside agencies and the public.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements:
  • Valid Arizona driver's license
  • Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Standby duty is mandatory.
  • Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Physical Requirements:

Must remain in a standing position for extended periods of time. Must be able to distinguish between the full range of colors in the color spectrum to work with electrical wires. Works in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements. Requires lifting of heavy objects of 50 pounds or more, long distances (more than 20 feet). Must be able to travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.

Working Conditions:
Work is frequently performed on medium voltage equipment, in close proximity to hazardous chemicals, raw and treated water/wastewater, in confined spaces, and at heights greater than 10 feet.
