Description
PLEASE NOTE - This position may require temporarily relocation to other TONHC Facilities: Sells Hospital, Santa Rosa Health Center, San Simon Health Center, and San Xavier Health Center.
Position Summary:
Responsible for the upkeep of the hospital and clinics by ensuring the cleanliness, appearance, and condition of landscaping items and features.
Scope of Work:
The position is located at TON Health Care. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or Facility Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
(Depending on the area of assignment, an incumbent may not be required to perform some of the duties listed below):
Maintains landscaping by trimming and pruning trees and shrubs, repairing fences, sweeping sidewalks, repairing irrigation systems, controlling weeds, watering, and cutting lawns.
Prepare soil and plants, trees, and vegetation.
Perform clean-up duties of entire premises on a routine basis.
Perform functions such as transplanting, essential pest control, pruning and trimming, and other landscaping duties.
Maintains, repairs, and operates irrigation/sprinkler systems.
Relines rocks on walking trails.
Operates and maintains various heavy equipment and power/hand tools such as backhoe, tractor, lawnmower, weed trimmer, rakes, and other landscaping tools.
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
Ensures the grounds and landscaping is safe for employees, patients, and visitors; and removes any hazardous obstacles.
Sprays lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides.
Cleans and removes materials and debris from work areas.
Check water softener in Housekeeping and levels of propane at the hospital. Notifies supervisor when running low.
Assists with maintenance projects.
Sets up and tears down meeting facilities according to program requests and directives.
Assists departments in moving or unloading supplies, furniture, and equipment as needed.
Complies with safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
Maintain required reports and records.
Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations, and requirements.
Knowledge of materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in grounds keeping and landscaping activities.
Knowledge of the principles and practices used in irrigation, planting, and gardening.
Knowledge of work hazards and safety procedures.
Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
Skill in the safe operation of power tools and equipment.
Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
Ability to use hand tools and lawn maintenance equipment.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
Ability to travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
One year of experience in groundskeeping or outside laborer experience.
Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:
Heavy equipment experience preferred.
Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and a National FBI fingerprint check are required to determine suitability for employment, including a 39-month driving record.
May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham language and English as a condition of employment.
