Pay Schedule II, Grade H23, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week

Vacancies exist in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Utilities, Pumping Division.

Examples of Duties

Under general supervision, performs journeyman level electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Diagnoses electrical problems and determines appropriate methods of repair.
  • Estimates cost of labor and materials.
  • Determines the lay out of projects.
  • Completes projects according to blueprints, plans, or schematics.
  • Installs, tests, and replaces components of electrical circuitry and internal power distribution systems including conduit, wiring, connections, receptacles, breakers, panels, and switches.
  • Tests, repairs, and replaces or installs electrical generators, transformers, and uninterrupted power systems.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs motors, controls, and other electrical components of equipment and appliances including heating, ventilation, pumping, and solid state control systems.
  • Installs, tests, and repairs door bells, buzzers, thermostats, lighting fixtures, and communications systems.
  • Leads and instructs lesser skilled workers.
  • Prepares and keeps records of time and materials used.
  • Uses tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Follows and ensures compliance with safety procedures and electrical codes.
  • Drives an automobile, light truck to transport workers, tools, or materials between job sites.
Examples of Other Duties
  • May inspect and approve the electrical work of outside contractors performed on County facilities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Possession of a Baltimore County Master General or Master Limited Electrician License
Or
Possession of a valid State-wide Master Electrician License
Or
A Maryland Journeyperson Electrician License.

(Registration as a Master Electrician in another jurisdiction within the State of Maryland, plus sufficient experience to qualify for Baltimore County reciprocity, may be substituted for the required Baltimore County or State-wide License.)

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class B Maryland driver's license and a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. (License may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.)

Registration as a Master General or Master Limited Electrician in Baltimore County is required at the time of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Conditions of Employment

Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.

Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no advance notice. Employees in this classification may be subject to standby duty for after-hours emergencies on a rotating basis.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of tools and equipment. Duties require exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as high voltage electricity and adverse weather. Some duties may require travel between work sites.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
