Job Summary
Minnesota Department of Corrections is currently seeking to filla permanent full-time Laborer, Trades & Equipment positionlocated at MCF Rush City. This position isresponsible for skilled labor work, assisting skilled trades employees in construction and maintenance projects, and groundskeeping activities including repair and maintenance of grounds, roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and equipment. This position is also responsible for the repair and maintenance of the facilities transportation vehicles
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
To perform, purchase, repair, and implement maintenance and participate in the upkeep of the facility grounds and roadways so that staff and offenders have an aesthetically sound and safe environment. To maintain grounds while operating related equipment so that maintenance of the grounds is done in a safe and efficient manner.
To aid skilled trades and plant maintenance staff by performing general labor so that their time and skills can be appropriately utilized.
To provide supervision of Incarcerated Person crews so that functions and policies of this facility are met in a secure and productive manner as needed to replace Groundskeeper Sr. (Horticulture) when on leave or not available to perform his/her duties.
To use and/or supervise Incarcerated Person with tools, equipment, materials and chemicals that complies with health/safety regulations so that efficiency and safety to self and others is maintained. (Note: Percent time-10% reflects chemical use, etc. Safety practices are 100%.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in the State of Minnesota with Air Brake Endorsement.
Pesticide Applicator Certification or ability to acquire within 6 months.
Applicants meeting the above will be further assessed on the following:
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, and tools used in trades-level work sufficient to assist trades-level staff in the completion of assigned projects.
Medium motorized equipment sufficient to understand state laws pertaining to operation of such equipment and to ensure that such equipment is utilized in a safe and effective manner.
Ability to:
Understand and follow oral directions sufficient to interpret and carry out verbal assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
Perform semiskilled trades work sufficient to complete assignments.
Strength and agility necessary to load, operate and repair medium sized equipment and materials.
Endurance necessary to perform tasks under extreme environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) does not participate in E-Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
