Job Description:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout and configuration of piping systems.
- Fit carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper nickel piping.
- Installing and repairing piping systems onboard Navy vessels.
- Conduct periodic spot checks for quality assurance on finished products.
- Assemble, fabricate, install, test ship piping systems and hangers, and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes using various tools and equipment such as pipe cutters, threading machines, and pipe benders.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in pipefitting techniques and materials.
- Cut pipe with a grinder and bend pipe with a hand bender.
- Fit welded sockets, brazed joints, and backing rings.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of naval, industrial, commercial, nuclear, petroleum, or chemical pipefitting experience.
- Candidates must be comfortable silver brazing.
- Able to read a ruler using inches and tenths.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Familiar with OSHA regulations relative to the shipbuilding industry.
- Pass hair follicle test and background check.
- Comfortable with heights and in confined spaces.
- Lift 50lbs without assistance.
- Must understand the layout of the ship and compartment identification.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills required.
- Written and skills testing required.
