Job Summary:
The HVAC Skilled Helper assists HVAC mechanics and technicians in the installation, repair, and maintenance of commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems on construction sites. This position requires hands-on experience with tools, ductwork, and equipment setup, as well as a solid understanding of HVAC systems and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the layout, installation, and assembly of HVAC systems including ductwork, hangers, insulation, and equipment.
- Measure, cut, and assemble sheet metal and flexible ductwork to specifications.
- Support mechanics in lifting and placing HVAC units, air handlers, VAV boxes, and other components.
- Use hand and power tools to fasten and secure materials.
- Ensure proper support and spacing of ductwork according to code.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas; remove debris and unused materials.
- Follow safety standards, wear appropriate PPE, and assist in ensuring site safety compliance.
- Assist in charging systems, pulling vacuum, and pressure testing under supervision.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed on schedule.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on HVAC tools and equipment.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience as an HVAC helper in commercial construction preferred.
- Familiarity with HVAC installation tools and materials (sheet metal, flex duct, sealants, etc.).
- Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and mechanical drawings.
- Strong work ethic with attention to detail and quality.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights or in confined spaces as needed.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
- Reliable transportation to job sites.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor and indoor construction environments, subject to seasonal weather.
- Physical labor including bending, lifting, climbing ladders, and prolonged standing.
