Are you looking for a BENEFITED SEASONAL position? Come join the CBJ Streets maintenance team, where you will operate snow removal equipment, including trucks with plows and or sanders, motor graders, loaders, and rotary snow blowers. This position's seasonal duration is typically 5 months and runs from the beginning of November through the end of March. Applicants must be flexible on the start and stop date.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Proficiency with Heavy Equipment:
You already have robust skills in operating heavy machinery, including motor graders. Your hands-on experience with safe operation is key to the job. Please note a skill exam will be required as part of the interview process.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This is a seasonal role with a typical duration of 5 months, running from November through March. The position generally follows a Monday through Friday schedule. During the winter months, we operate on rotating shifts: 3:00 am - 11:00 am, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, and 11:00 pm - 7:00 am. Shifts are assigned on a two-month rotation based on staffing needs.
Employees report daily to the CBJ Street Maintenance Shop at 7100 Glacier Hwy. At the beginning of each shift, you will be dispatched to various work locations around Juneau. In the event of significant weather events, such as snow or flooding, you may be required to work overtime, including weekends and holidays, to ensure the safety of the traveling public.
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
As a member of the Streets Maintenance Crew, your primary responsibilities will focus on seasonal maintenance of CBJ streets during the winter months. Key duties include:
Snow and Ice Control: Operate heavy and light-duty equipment for snow plowing, salting, and sanding to ensure safe driving conditions.
Gravel Road Maintenance: Maintain and repair gravel roads to manage winter wear and ensure continued accessibility.
Asphalt Patching: Address and repair potholes and other asphalt issues as they arise during the winter season.
Tasks at times are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be particularly alert and careful whenever operating assigned equipment. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained. This position regularly works outdoors in cold and/or wet weather conditions. This position requires heavy lifting, physical endurance, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
:
Three (3) years of maintenance and/or construction experience in roadways, bridges, airport runways, taxiways, ramps and/or aprons. This experience must include operating heavy and light motorized equipment in the construction and/or maintenance of streets, roadways or utilities, airport runways and taxiways, ramps and aprons, using hand and power tools, performing minor servicing of equipment, and applying safety procedures.
AND
Demonstrated proficiency on a motor grader regardless of conditions.

Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with Airbrakes and Tanker (N) endorsement at time of application, however, must obtain valid Class "A" State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License with airbrakes and Tanker (N) endorsement by time of appointment if selected. Class "A" Commercial Driver's License must include ability to operate manual transmissions.
