Job Summary:
The Asbestos Worker is responsible for safely removing, encapsulating, and disposing of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. Working in industrial environments, this role requires a strong focus on safety, compliance, and teamwork under potentially hazardous conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform asbestos abatement, encapsulation, and removal tasks in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and state regulations.
- Prepare work areas by setting up containment systems, negative air pressure units, and warning signage.
- Remove insulation, flooring, roofing, or other ACMs using hand and power tools under controlled conditions.
- Handle and package asbestos-containing materials for proper transportation and disposal.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators and protective suits, as required.
- Assist with decontamination procedures, including cleaning tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Complete job site documentation, including daily logs, air monitoring records, and waste manifests.
- Support safe work practices and participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications:
- Required Certifications:
- Valid state-issued Asbestos Worker license/certification
- H2S, Confined Space Entry, and Fit Test certifications may be required depending on site
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
- Previous asbestos abatement experience in industrial settings is highly preferred
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of asbestos safety procedures and regulatory requirements
- Physical stamina to work in PPE and respirators for extended periods
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work as part of a team
- Good communication and time management skills
Work Environment:
- Industrial job sites, including refineries, chemical plants, and power stations
- Exposure to high temperatures, confined spaces, heights, and potentially hazardous materials
- Extensive use of PPE, including full-face respirators, Tyvek suits, gloves, and boots
- May require night shifts, weekends, or extended hours based on project needs
- Travel to remote or out-of-town job sites may be required
