Job Description

The Solar Electrical Superintendent is the on-site leader responsible for day-to-day supervision of all electrical installation activities on our solar projects. You will coordinate crews and subcontractors, enforce NEC and OSHA compliance, manage project schedules, and serve as the primary client interface in the field. This role reports to the Project Manager and works closely with the Safety, QA/QC, and Estimating teams to drive successful project delivery.

Essential Duties

  • Field Leadership: Oversee and direct electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors in all electrical scopes, including combiner and inverter installations, conduit trenching, grounding systems, and system commissioning.
  • Schedule & Productivity: Develop and maintain detailed look-ahead schedules; track daily progress, man-hours, and material usage; proactively identify and resolve delays.
  • Quality Control: Enforce workmanship standards per JMS Quality Plan; conduct daily inspections of terminations, torque settings, and cable routing; coordinate third-party testing (e.g., megger, VLF, IV curve).
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce JMS’s Zero-Incident Safety Program; conduct daily tailgates and toolbox talks; ensure all work meets NEC, IEEE, and OSHA requirements, as well as IRA/Labor compliance standards.
  • Communication & Reporting: Serve as the primary on-site liaison with Owners, O&M teams, and other trades; provide daily reports, RFIs, and change-order documentation to the Project Manager.
  • Resource Management: Verify crew size and labor classifications (journeyman to apprentice ratios); manage subcontractor scopes and purchase requests; reconcile timecards and productivity logs.
  • Commissioning Support: Validate final testing and startup procedures; witness critical inspections, troubleshoot system faults, and coordinate successful turnover to operations.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • 5+ years of hands-on supervisory experience on utility-scale or commercial solar electrical projects.
  • Journeyman Electrician license (or equivalent) in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Proficient understanding of NEC Article 690 (Solar PV systems) and OSHA regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, plans, and load calculations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote sites.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
  • First Aid / CPR certification.
  • Experience with commissioning tests: IR imaging, VLF, IV curve, and torque validation.
  • Familiarity with SmartSheet, Procore, or similar project management platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent field experience).

Work Environment:

  • This is a site-based role and includes work performed at heights (300 feet), confined spaces and in all weather conditions and may include exposure to dust, fumes and loud noises.
  • On-site work requires adherence to safety regulations and Company policies.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders, kneeling, and standing or walking 8-10 hours per day.
  • Travel to various JMS jobsite locations may be required with limited notice
