KDS Windsor is seeking an experienced Millwright/Journeyman. In this position, you will have a crucial role in assembling and supporting the installation of our field project operations at our various batch and continuous lumber drying kilns, and wood waste heat plants around the Southeast and Pacific Northwest United States. The objectives of this position include expert rigging, welding, installation activities related to the kiln sites, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining high-quality precision and workmanship standards. This role requires a willingness to travel extensively to various job sites that average 3-4 months per installation, along with the physical ability to navigate different environments and lift equipment, as needed. The Millwright/Journeyman will contribute significantly to the successful installation by ensuring efficient operations, maintain safety standards, and promoting a positive working environment.


This is a full-time position and will report directly to the Field Superintendent and will travel to our various kiln sites.




  • Welding Certification including AWS.
  • Rigging Certification including NCCCO or equivalent.
  • Aerial Lift Certification.
  • OSHA 10 Construction Certification.
  • Mechanical fabrication and welding experience is preferred.
  • Hoisting and rigging experience is preferred.
  • Experience with industrial kiln installation is preferred.
  • Experience in the wood or lumber industry is considered a plus.


Job Duties


  • Install and assemble lumber kilns according to specifications, blueprints, precision measurement, and adhere to all safety protocols, guidelines, and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for the entire team.
  • Fabricate and join metal components as needed and perform rigging operations to safely lift and position heavy equipment and components during the installation process.
  • Communicate with the Field Superintendent and internal project team for the entirety of the installation process to address any site issues.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the site Superintendent, General Foreman, and team members to ensure project milestones are being met timely and within budget.
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues or malfunctions to resolve to ensure minimal downtime and efficient project completion.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation procedures, equipment specifications, and safety documentation.



  • Ability to travel 100% of the time.
  • Minimum of 2 years of specific experience and/or training related to the essential functions of the job; or equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Must be proficient using all construction hand tools, torches, welding machines, and measuring devices.
  • Ability to work in hot environments both indoors and out.
  • Must be able to demonstrate creativity and initiative in attacking and solving problems.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to collaborate with members of the team, and clients.

  • Hourly position with OT each week (6-day/10-hour weekly shift, unless specified otherwise by the Field Superintendent).

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

  • Ability to travel 100% or more including some nights and weekends.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks as required in an industrial setting.
