JOB SUMMARY

This position performs technical services in conjunction with the maintenance, operation, inspection, and testing of a variety of electrical and control systems equipment. The EIT shall be knowledgeable of electrical and instrumentation equipment used in wastewater process control systems. The incumbent will report to the Wastewater Lift Station Supervisor or the Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Perform a variety of skilled electrical/instrumentation maintenance work, including electrical fundamentals, automated controls, electrical monitoring, general instrumentation application, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controls), electric motors, motor control centers, motor drives, electrical circuits and components, and emergency power systems;

• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical system problems and plan corrective action as needed;

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, process control, drives and actuators, instrumentation and telemetry equipment;

• Mentor and train operators and technicians on proper electrical and instrumentation maintenance and procedures;

• Assure electrical records are updated as needed;

• Maintain proficiency through continuing education on electrical and instrumentation, including NEC code changes;

• Works on call 24 hours per day for emergency response. Must also be able to be on call on a rotating basis, as needed, and must be able to work additional hours, weekends, holidays, etc., as needed in order to accomplish assigned work;

• Provides direct support to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance or Wastewater Lift Station Supervisor(s) and serves in their absence as team leader for the respective maintenance group; and

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

• Associate's degree in electrical/instrumentation, electronics or a closely related field;

• Four (4) years of relevant prior experience as an industrial electrician, to include experience in instrumentation and controls troubleshooting and repair;

• Must be competent in reading and updating wiring diagrams;

• Must be familiar with current NEC code book for South Carolina;

• Be able to obtain a Master Electrician or Journeyman Electrician certification within two (2) years from date of hire or promotion; OR be able to obtain the ISA CCST (International Society of Automation, Certified Controls Technician) Level 1 certification within two (2) years from date of hire or promotion;

• Be able to obtain a Level "D" Biological Wastewater certification AND Level "D" Wastewater Collection system Operator certification within two (2) years from date of hire or promotion;

• Valid South Carolina Class "D" Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving plane and solid figures, circumferences, areas and volumes;

• Ability to gather, organize, analyze, examine or evaluate data or information and may prescribe action based on such data or information;

• Ability to provide information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants;

• Ability to lead, operate or repair complex electronic equipment or machinery that requires extended training and experience, such as public utility equipment and systems; may involve installation and testing. Involves operations of limited scope;

• Ability to perform coordinating work involving guidelines and rules, with constant problem-solving;

• Ability to read technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form;

• Ability to perform clerical, manual or technical tasks prescribed by standard practices but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgments with obvious choices; requires normal attention for accurate results; and

• Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers, customers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is considered heavy in nature and involves walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, and constantly lifting, pushing or raising objects, exerting between 35 to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 100 pounds of force on a frequent basis. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, fingering, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
