Job Summary:
The Quality Technician – Military Helmet Manufacturing is responsible for executing quality control processes across all stages of production for ballistic helmets and other personal protective equipment supplied to the U.S. Department of Defense. This role ensures strict adherence to defense contract requirements, ballistic performance specifications, and regulatory standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and ITAR. The ideal candidate is experienced in inspecting composite or molded parts, performing mechanical testing, and documenting compliance for highly regulated government contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect incoming materials, molded shells, and finished helmet assemblies to ensure compliance with DoD specifications, ballistic standards (e.g., MIL-STD-662), and internal quality criteria
- Conduct dimensional inspections using precision tools (calipers, gauges, fixtures) and visual inspections for surface quality, liner fit, and assembly accuracy
- Verify ballistic test results and documentation, ensuring traceability to specific lots and contract deliverables
- Support First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) per AS9102 and documentation of PPAPs, Certificates of Conformance (C of C), and test records
- Maintain meticulous documentation in support of AS9100 and ITAR/DFARS compliance, including lot traceability, calibration logs, and inspection reports
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) for internal issues, supplier nonconformance, and field failures
- Participate in internal and external audits (e.g., DCMA, customer, or ISO) by preparing documentation and presenting quality records
- Support quality testing including adhesive bond strength, impact resistance, strap attachment integrity, and environmental conditioning tests
- Collaborate with quality engineering and production to ensure in-process controls and final inspections meet customer and military requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification preferred (Quality, Industrial, or Mechanical Technology)
- 2+ years of experience in quality inspection within a DoD-compliant manufacturing environment, preferably involving composite materials or PPE
- Proficient in using precision inspection equipment and interpreting engineering drawings with GD&T
- Familiar with AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR, and DFARS requirements
- Experience with ballistic helmet performance standards and inspection protocols is highly desirable
- Strong written documentation skills and ability to maintain structured records for traceability
- Basic knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Detail-oriented, self-driven, and comfortable working in a regulated, high-accountability environment

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in composite manufacturing, adhesive bonding, or molded product inspection
- Familiarity with ballistic testing protocols (e.g., NIJ, MIL-STD, NATO STANAG) and performance reporting
- Experience working with DCMA or government source inspectors
- Knowledge of SPC tools, CAPA systems, and document control in a QMS environment
- Active or eligible for U.S. security clearance (a plus)
