Summary of Primary Functions: Our Millwright Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment across multiple job sites. This role involves managing a team of millwrights, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and industry standards. The supervisor will coordinate schedules, provide technical expertise, and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, all while traveling to various locations. Strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to diverse environments are essential for success in this position.  

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

All employees are required to follow all Safety and Quality rules and processes to ensure a safe working environment and the production of high-quality products. Duties and responsibilities for our Millwright Superintendent include, but are not limited to:  

  • Troubleshoot, install, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other technical drawings in industrial settings. 
  • Perform precise alignments on motors, gearboxes, and rollers. 
  • Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, aerial lifts, and cranes safely and efficiently. 
  • Install, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment based on layout plans, blueprints, and technical drawings in industrial environments. 
  • Maintain and repair conveyor systems. 
  • Perform mechanical alignments on motors, gearboxes, rollers, and other equipment to ensure proper function. 
  • Operate and manage mobile equipment including forklifts, aerial lifts, and cranes to transport and position machinery and parts. 
  • Weld and use cutting torches to fabricate, modify, or repair metal components as needed. 
  • Use precision instruments to align, measure, and adjust equipment to meet installation or operational requirements. 
  • Utilize power tools such as saws, drills, and grinders for various tasks in installation and repair processes. 
  • Employ both standard and metric hand tools, including wrenches, sockets, allen keys, and taps, to perform mechanical tasks efficiently. 
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues promptly and accurately, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining project timelines. 
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards, adhering to all safety protocols during installation, maintenance, and repair tasks. 
  • Coordination of tasks to ensure they are completed within projected job completion date. 

 

Job Specifications or Qualifications   

Certifications: 30-hour Construction OSHA required. NCCER is preferred but not required.  

  

Experience:   

  • 4+ years of experience in a Millwright Supervision role is strongly required.  
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience as a Millwright is required.  
  • Experience with heavy equipment installation and removal in Autostore or EV battery settings is highly desirable.

  • Rigging Experience   
  • Advanced Mechanical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of machinery, equipment installation, and mechanical systems.  
  • Precision Installation Skills: Extensive experience with the precise installation, alignment, and assembly of machinery and mechanical systems.  
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Advanced ability to quickly identify and resolve mechanical issues with equipment and systems.  
  • Heavy Equipment Operation: Proficient in operating and overseeing the use of cranes, hoists, and other heavy machinery.  
  • Welding & Fabrication: Expertise in welding, cutting, and fabricating metal parts when needed for repairs or installations.  
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and crews while ensuring work progresses according to schedule and budget.  
  • Safety Compliance & Hazard Identification: Strong understanding of safety standards and regulations, with the ability to enforce them on-site.  
  • Materials & Resource Coordination: Experienced in managing materials, tools, and equipment for large projects, ensuring timely availability.  
  • Structural & Mechanical Installation: In-depth knowledge of structural and mechanical installations, including pumps, conveyors, and industrial systems.  
  • Leadership & Crew Supervision: Proven ability to lead and mentor millwrights, providing guidance and ensuring the team’s efficiency.  
  • Strong Communication Skills: Effective in conveying technical information to team members and coordinating with other departments or contractors.  
  • Client-Facing Communication: Comfortable interacting with clients, addressing project progress, and resolving concerns when necessary.  
  • Rigging Expertise: Skilled in rigging practices for moving and installing heavy or oversized machinery and equipment.  
  • Troubleshooting Advanced Systems: Experience diagnosing issues in complex systems, such as hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated machinery.  

  

Work of Others: Millwrights on site. 

 

 Certifications: 30-hour Construction OSHA required. NCCER is preferred but not required. 

 

Experience: 

2+ years as a millwright supervisor is highly desirable. 

6 months or more managing a team or 4 years as a Millwright worker required. 

 

Key Competencies: 

  • Possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Select and handle appropriate materials such as bolts, pipes, tubing, and bearings, ensuring correct installation and lubrication procedures. 
  • Proficient in using common power tools such as saws, drills, and grinders. 
  • Well-versed in both standard and metric hand tools, including wrenches, sockets, allen keys, bits, and taps. 
  • Skilled in welding and using a cutting torch for fabrication and repairs. 
  • Knowledgeable in the various grades and sizes of bolts, pipes, and tubing, with expertise in bearing installation and lubrication. 
  • Capable of constructing, assembling, repairing, and dismantling machinery and equipment using tools such as hammers, wrenches, crowbars, rollers, dollies, hoists, and other hand tools. 
  • Experienced in selecting appropriate rigging for specific load requirements. 
  • Able to interpret schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, and building plans to determine materials and specifications needed to complete tasks efficiently. 
  • Strong understanding of job site safety and the ability to complete company-specific safety orientations. 
  • Demonstrates a high standard of integrity, professionalism, and work ethic. 
  • Capable of identifying problems and effectively tracking and resolving issues. 
  • Physically capable of manipulating objects with tools and strength as required for tasks.
