Position Overview:

GPT Renewables is seeking an experienced Commissioning Lead Solar Electrician to support multiple community solar projects across Illinois. Projects range from 2–7.5 MW and utilize ATI trackers, with crews rotating sites approximately every 3 months. This role is critical in driving projects from mechanical completion through substantial completion, ensuring systems are safely energized, tested, and fully operational.

Pay Rate: $70.56(includes fringe benefit rates)

Per Diem: $140 per 7 days

Start: 4/22/2026

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all commissioning activities including system energization, testing, and turnover
  • Perform and oversee electrical testing (voltage, insulation resistance, continuity, grounding)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues during commissioning and startup
  • Oversee punch list completion and assist in final documentation and turnover packages
  • Enforce safety protocols including lockout/tag-out procedures
  • Mentor and guide field personnel through commissioning processes
  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Utilize appropriate hand tools (i.e., crescent wrench, pliers, hammer, screwdriver) and power tools (i.e., drills, impact wrenches) to install components per codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions.
  • Install, connect, and troubleshoot electrical wiring, combiner boxes, inverters, and other electrical components.
  • Ensure all installations meet or exceed project specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations, driving projects to mechanical completion.
  • Lead or assist in supervising crews on-site, assigning tasks, monitoring productivity, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct electrical testing and inspections to ensure all installations meet safety and performance standards, including voltage checks, grounding, and insulation resistance testing.
  • Identify methods for laying out, orienting, and mounting modules or arrays for efficient installation, electrical configuration, or system maintenance.
  • Identify and resolve any deficiencies in PV system installation or materials.
  • Lift, carry, and handle building materials, tools, and supplies; clean tools, equipment, materials, and work areas..
  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to helpers and laborers.
  • Produce quality work, meeting all requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as requested by your supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Electrician, with strong solar commissioning background
  • Proven experience in solar ground mount construction and management
  • Hands-on experience commissioning ground mount community and/or utility-scale projects
  • Ability to manage a site from Mechanical Completion to Substantial Completion
  • Strong knowledge of testing, troubleshooting, and energization procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and commissioning plans
  • Understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Travel between project sites as required, supporting multiple solar installations across Illinois on a rotational basis.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen & basic background check
