Description TRAVELING CARPENTER JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

Carry out climbing wall construction installation tasks on various climbing gym construction projects across the country. Installation using a variety of methods, including steel fabrication, erection, installation and basic carpentry skills to complete tasks will be needed and employed. Operate hand and power tools of all types and a variety of construction equipment and instruments. In addition, will clean and prepare sites, install panels & steel, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble and debris. Will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized jobsite.

Primary and Essential Functions
  • Follow all OSHA Safety Expectations;
  • Support fellow field crew and work effectively as a team;
  • Be professional, respectful, embrace change, be trainable, and have a positive attitude;
  • Execute effective time management to be at work and come back from breaks on-time;
  • Be dressed properly and 100% ready with appropriate clothing and safety boots on before clocking in;
  • Have hard hat and safety boots on before entering the jobsite;
  • Effectively use Vertical Solutions tech platforms and tools to ensure data integrity is in place with iSolve and LS Sessions;
  • Be efficient in task preparation to ensure production output starts timely;
  • Keep the jobsite clean, organized and adhere to 5S methodology;
  • Have a sense of urgency and purpose throughout the day while achieving a Culture of Craftsmanship;
  • Have the ability to consistently do things correctly the first time to maximize productivity results;
  • Do some masonry concrete;
  • Operate hand, power and pneumatic tools and equipment adhering to safety procedures;
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distributes them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications;
  • Assemble and disassemble concrete forms, shoring, braces, ramps, scaffolding and other temporary structures;
  • Perform demolition, excavation, and grade to specifications;
  • Read and interpret plans on both printed and computer driven platforms;
  • Make estimates of material and equipment requirements;
  • Install all common building materials including but not limited to sheet rock, paneling, tile, millwork and trim, framing materials, fasteners and anchors;
  • Use proper procedures for common construction chemicals and compounds including but not limited to mixing, disposal, and identification of hazardous and nonhazardous materials;
  • Operate heavy equipment;
  • Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment and tools;
  • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones;
  • Work at heights both on a lift and in a harness in an exposed environment;
  • Provide assistance to craft workers, such as electricians, HVAC, and masons, etc. if needed;
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), general directions (both verbal & hands-on), execute quality-control programs and safety requirements for all production operations;
  • Wear company provided safety equipment IE (harness, hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses).
  • General labor work (e.g. Sweep, clean up job site, organizing, inventory management, run errands, use hammer and saw, demolition, etc.);
  • Additional duties may be assigned in various functions of Vertical Solutions.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime;
  • At least three years of on-the-job construction training, apprenticeship or a 2-year associate degree in Construction;
  • Minimum of 1 year commercial stick welding experience
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment including lifting heavy materials, operating heavy machinery and staying on their feet most of the day. Some work at great heights or outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • Thorough knowledge of practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in construction and maintenance;
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work;
  • Ability to interpret and work from instructions, penciled plans, sketches, and printed & computer plans;
  • Ability to use and read measuring tape;
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with superiors, subordinates, vendors, peers, and clients;
  • OSHA 30-day certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire);
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Travel Qualifications:
  • Ability to travel and move to and from various projects across the country, living in cities for long periods of time with other co-workers;
  • Ability to travel and be on the road for 80-90% of the year;
  • Ability to adjust to changing assignments while working onsite;
  • Work at heights training preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand on your feet the majority of the day;
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs;
  • Regularly work at heights in exposed feeling environments;
  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemical materials;
  • Noise level is typical of that found in a construction environment;
  • Subject to atmospheric conditions;
  • Crouching, kneeling, twisting, reaching, climbing, pushing and pulling;
  • The worker is required to function in narrow aisles, enclosed and tight spaces or passageways;
  • Potential exposure to weather and environmental conditions.
Pay Range DOE:

$20-$25 an hour
