This role is critical to ensuring the integrity, safety, and durability of structural steel components used in buildings, and industrial facilities. The Structural Welder will be responsible for executing precision welding operations using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) techniques, with a focus on joining dissimilar metals in complex structural assemblies. This position requires a strong understanding of welding codes, safety protocols, and blueprint interpretation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional with proven experience in field welding, a commitment to quality craftsmanship, and the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced, outdoor environments. Your work will directly contribute to the structural soundness and long-term performance of critical construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-quality SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) on structural steel components in field and fabrication shop settings.
  • Weld dissimilar metals (e.g., carbon steel to stainless steel) in accordance with project specifications and AWS standards.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding procedures to ensure accurate and compliant weld execution.
  • Conduct pre-weld and post-weld inspections, including visual checks and documentation of weld quality.
  • Maintain and inspect welding equipment, ensuring proper function and safety compliance.
  • Adhere to OSHA and company safety standards, including proper use of PPE and hazard mitigation practices.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to coordinate welding schedules and resolve technical challenges.
  • Support quality assurance processes by documenting weld procedures, defects, and corrective actions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance welding efficiency, safety, and structural integrity.

---

Requirements:

  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in structural welding within the construction or fabrication industry.
  • Proficient in SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) with demonstrated ability to produce high-integrity welds on structural steel.
  • Experience welding dissimilar metals, including knowledge of proper techniques, filler materials, and joint preparation.
  • Valid certification in AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code (or equivalent) and ability to maintain current certification.
  • Strong understanding of welding symbols, blueprint reading, and welding procedure specifications (WPS/PQR).
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments, including elevated platforms, confined spaces, and variable weather conditions.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to OSHA and company safety protocols.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in awkward positions, and stand for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, during project peak periods.
