Competentia seeks a QA/QC Inspector - (Mechanical) for a position East of Baton Rouge:

Location: East of Baton Rouge

Job Description: 

A Quality Control (QC) Inspector monitors mechanical work in progress to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards. The goal of a QC Inspector is to evaluate completed work for compliance with applicable codes, standards and job requirements. 


  • The Quality Control Inspector may be responsible for, Monitor the execution of mechanical work in progress to ensure that it complies with the applicable codes, standards, and specific job requirements. 

  • Conduct welding quality control activities in accordance with company and industry standards, such as ASME B31.3 

  • Provide input and participate in the development of turnaround work list items to ensure QC compliance. 

  • Function as the in-plant Inspection contact for outside shop inspections. Perform infield metallurgical surveys for verification of appropriate process materials as required by the Required Standard - Positive Material Identification. 

  • Document all repairs to pressure vessels, exchangers, tanks, piping, and furnaces. 

  • Coordinate radiography, and post weld heat treatment activities. 

  • Develop programs to systematically monitor the quality of welds as well as the personnel performing the welding. 

  • Conduct welder qualification for specific procedures as required by ASME Section IX. Material receiving inspection. 

Basic/Required Qualifications:? 

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions. 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. 

  • Valid driver's license. 

  • 3 plus years of direct experience as an inspector. 

  • 3 plus years direct experience in refining and/or chemical industry. 

  • 3 plus years of direct experience with ASME B31.3 and ASME Sec 8 div 2 and NBIC. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree/Trade Certifications/Diploma. 

  • Basic knowledge in metallurgy and welding. 

  • Computer proficient with applications such as Excel, Word, SAP, and UltraPipe, Lotus Notes, Weld Pro-Write. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  

  • AWS CWI certification
